Punjas Pacific Islanders & Punjas Tri-nations Series

Rugby is to the Pacific Region what Football and Cricket are to other nations around the world: the numero uno sport of the masses.

Punja & Sons Ltd, were major sponsors of the Pacific Islanders team and their inaugural test series between three of the greatest rugby nations in the world – namely, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

It began with our sponsorship of the Punjas Tri-Nations Series between the island nations of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. This contest featured not only native players, but also others who traveled from all around the world to participate. From this wealth of talent it was possible to handpick an elite rugby team to make up the “Punjas Pacific Islanders” - the team which confronted with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on the field. The series showcased Pacific rugby at its best, with all the passion, vigour and inspiring teamwork that defined the games.

Punjas has “The Choice of the Pacific” as its strategic tag line, which was associated throughout the Pacific with this team.

Punja & Sons Ltd, worked closely with the Pacific Island Rugby Alliance (PIRA) for this prestigious series and had an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to create global awareness of the islands of the beautiful South Pacific.

Needless to say, this series encouraged closer ties between Fiji and its neighbours, while serving the aspirations of both young and old rugby supporters who would like to see Pacific Island rugby come into its own, and become a distinctive feature in the cultural landscape of these islands.

Punjas enjoyed a wide range of opportunities including the right to display their logo on the team's jersey in the prominent front jersey position on the Pacific Islander Team and stadium signage and, of course, hold the naming rights for both the series. Also, capitalizing on the excitement of the event, the company hosted the Punjas Rugby Bonanza. This promotional scheme gave buyers of selected Punjas products opportunities to win a range of attractive prizes: Rugby tickets, Rugby Jerseys, Autographed Rugby Balls, and Return Air Tickets to Australia and New Zealand to watch Punjas Pacific Islanders do battle with the Wallabies and the All Blacks teams.

Punjas Rugby Series

The Punjas Rugby Series is an annual rugby union competition played between the A sides of Fiji and Tonga.

Punjas signed on with the Fiji Rugby Union to be the naming rights sponsor in 2010. This new rugby series was an effort to rekindle competition between Tonga and Fiji and develop local players.
